GUSTAV STAMM

Gustav, Stamm, son of Henry and Magdalena (Rupp) Stamm, was born near Archbold, Ohio on Oct. 2, 1884, the second son of a family of ten children. He departed this life on May 12, 1968, having reached the age of 83 years, seven months and 10 days. He had been failing in health for nearly 13 years, suffering a series of strokes.

In his youth he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and united with the Evangelical Mennonite Church. He always was highly interested in music and graduated from the Academy of Music at Goshen College, after which he taught music to various groups in schools and churches. Philharmonic and symphonic music along with sacred music were always dear to him.

At the age of 26 he transferred his membership to the Lockport Mennonite Church, where he was a faithful member until death. On Feb. 22, 1911 he married Priscilla Stuckey of Archbold. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1961. This marriage was blessed with four sons and six daughters.

Dad always had a keen interest in the work of his church and helped whenever possible. He served many years in the capacities of Sunday school superintendent, song leader, Sunday school teacher, and in other areas of Christian duty. His sincere Christian belief and faith in the teachings of Christ made life in the family, the church, and the community a real joy, and will be a lasting satisfaction for us who remain.

He leaves to mourn his departure his loving companion; four sons, Paul of Waldron, Mich., Harold of Wauseon, Ohio, Denver and Duane of Archbold; five daughters, Beulah (Mrs. Claire Stockburger) of West Unity, Ohio, Geneva (Mrs. Luther Shetler) of Bluffton, Ohio, Wilma (Mrs. Glen A. Roth), Zelma (Mrs. Morris Kauffman), and Grace (Mrs. James Eicher), all of Archbold; 43 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and two brothers, Fred and Alvin of Archbold.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Irma (Mrs. Virgil Short), his parents, two brothers and five sisters.

Services were held in Lockport Mennonite Church on May 15 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastors Walter Stuckey and Earl Stuckey officiating. Burial in Lockport Cemetery.
