Retired Banker Called By Death at Age 78
Archbold, Ohio. — Alvin J. Stamm, 78, retired banker and a lifelong resident here, died Nov. 4 at Fairlawn Haven where he had been a resident since his retirement three years ago.
Mr. Stamm was associated with the Farmers and Merchants State Bank here fore more than 50 years, during which the bank became the largest in Fulton County. He served in various capacities, including vice-president and chairman of the board.
Mr. Stamm was long active in civic affairs of the city and county, and in 1966 was named Archbold Citizen of the Year by the Lions Club. He was also active in his church, the Evangelical Mennonite Church of Archbold, where the funeral was conducted on Nov. 6 by Rev. Charles Zimmerman.
Surviving are two sons, Donald S. and Kenneth E., both of Archbold, and five grandchildren.
