Nappanee, Ind. — Mrs. Nellie Mae Stahly, 89, a native of this community and resident here most of her life, died Feb. 11 at Goshen General Hospital. At the time of her death she was a resident of Greencroft Apartments, Goshen.

She was the mother of Rev. Ralph Stahly of Goshen, Paul Stahly of Nappanee, and Lamar Stahly of Wakarusa.

Funeral services were held at the North Main Street Mennonite Church here on Feb. 14, with Rev. Norman Lyndaker in charge.

Mrs. Harvey (Nellie) Stahly was born Aug. 10, 1881, near Nappanee, Ind., the daughter of Rev. and Mrs. James H. McGowen [sic McGowan]. She was the oldest child in a family of four. Two brothers, Chas. and Milo, and a sister Mary preceded her in death. Her father was a minister in the (Wes) [sic North Main Street] Mennonite Church of Nappanee for a number of years.

She accepted Christ as her saviour in her youth and united with the believers of the church in Nappanee of which her father was a minister. She participated in many activities of the church, including the work of WMSA, song leader, and teaching of Sunday school classes. She taught a class of teenage girls for a number of years and had a deep concern for the youth of the church. Her home was always open to all, especially the young people.

She was united in marriage to Harvey Stahly on Aug. 18, 1904 near Nappanee, Ind. by Minister Noah Metzler. Her husband preceded her in death on Jan. 17, 1969. Survivors include four sons, Ward of Elkhart, Rev. Ralph of Goshen, Paul of Wakarusa, and H. LaMar of Nappanee; 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and a number of relatives and friends. She will be remembered for her many deeds of kindness and her friendly smile for all.
