Hutterite Leader Dies at Age 85
Stanford, S. D. — Funeral services were held recently at the Surprise Creek Colony near here for Rev. Joseph Stahl Sr., 85, who was a Hutterite minister most of his adult life.
Rev. Stahl was the founder of the King Colony near Lewistown, and served there as minister from 1935 to 1952. He was one of the co-founders of the Surprise Creek Colony, where he had lived since 1963.
He leaves a total of 99 descendants.
