MRS. EMMA STAHL

Emma Stahl, daughter of Christian and Elizabeth (Good) Birkey, was born June 12, 1882, at Hopedale, Ill., and passed away en route from Florida to her home in Clarksville, Mich., at the Hopedale, Ill. hospital on June 10, 1955, aged 72 years, 11 months, 29 days.

On March 5, 1922, she was married to George Stahl, who preceded her in death in 1948.

In her youth she accepted Christ as her personal Saviour and united with the Mennonite church, of which she was a faithful member the remainder of her life, also being a faithful wife and mother in the home. She was always concerned for the welfare of others.

She had suffered from diabetes for a number of years. Throughout her illness she was most patient and freely resigned herself to God’s will.

She leaves to mourn her departure a step-son, Omar Stahl of Clarksville, Mich.; three brothers, John of Alto, Mich., Simon of Amboy, Ind. and Levi of Hopedale, Ill.; and two sisters, Phebe Slabaugh of Alto, Mich. and Sarah May Sutter of Sarasota, Fla., with whom she made her home the last few years and who tenderly cared for her in her declining days.

Her parents and two sisters, Katie and Clara Marie, preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held at the Hopedale Mennonite church on June 12, with Simon Litwiller and Ivan Kauffman in charge, after which the body was taken to Clarksville, Mich., where services were held June 13 at Bowne Mennonite church, D. A. Yoder and the home minister officiating. Burial was made in the adjoining cemetery.
