Journalism Student Killed in Accident
FALL FROM BICYCLE FATAL TO JAMES H. SPRUNGER OF BERNE
Berne, Ind. — Funeral services were held at the First Mennonite Church here April 12 for James H. Sprunger, 28, promising journalism student at Indiana University who was instantly killed in an accident at Bloomington April 9.
The young man received a fatal concussion in a fall from his bicycle while riding to a class. He was subject to fainting spells and it is believed one of these caused him to fall, his head striking the pavement.
James graduated from Bluffton College in 1955 and entered Indiana University last fall for graduate study in journalism. He had recently been named editor-in-chief of the Indiana Daily Student.
He was a member of the Mennonite church here, active in Sunday school and youth work, and was vice-president of the Middle District Young People's Union.
Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Naomi Sprunger, and one sister, Barbara Ann, also a graduate student at Indiana University. his father, Clifton H. Sprunger, former manager of the Berne Witness Co., died in 1952.
