LENA A. SPRINGER

Lena A. Springer, daughter of John and Catherine (Schrock) Birkey, was born at Metamora, Ill. on Dec. 26, 1876, passed away at the Burnham City Hospital, Champaign, Ill. on July 24,1958, aged 81 years, six months, and 29 days. One week previous to her going home to be with her Maker she suffered a stroke and other complications.

At the age of 18 she moved with her parents and family from Metamora to Dewey, Ill.

On Feb. 4, 1900, she was united in marriage to David V. Springer of Hopedale, Ill. Here they made their home for nine years. They moved to a farm near Seabrook, Ill. and lived there thirty years. After this, they moved to her present home near Fisher where she resided 18 years.

At an early age she accepted Christ as her Saviour and was baptized upon the confession of her faith. She was a faithful Christian and a member of the East Bend Mennonite church.

Her husband preceded her in death about four years ago. Surviving are her six children: John and Aaron of Foosland, Roy of Saybrook, Melvin of Denbigh, Va., Elizabeth of Peoria, Ill., and Kathryn of Indianapolis, Ind.; three daughters-in-law; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She also leaves four brothers and two sisters: Andrew, John,and William, of Manson, Iowa, Joseph of Grand Rapids, Mich., Mrs. Alpha Naffziger of Rockwell City, Iowa, and Mrs. Ben Zehr of Manson, Iowa. Two brothers preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held at the East Bend Church in charge of Howard J. Zehr and Harold Zehr with burial in the church cemetery.
