Father of Ten Killed In Truck Accident On Ohio Turnpike
New Holland, Pa. — A 42-year-old father of 10 children from nearby rural Narvon, Pa. was killed in a truck accident on the Ohio Turnpike early Saturday, Aug. 15.
Daniel S. Smucker and son David had gone to Shipshewana, Ind. to purchase a truck load of horses at the horse sale there. They were returning home and reportedly were sleeping in the cab of the semi-trailer, operated by two drivers, when it was involved in an accident near a Toledo exit of the turnpike.
Mr. Smucker was thrown under the truck as it overturned and died instantly. Four horses also were killed. He was a member of the Amish church, and the funeral was conducted at the family home on Aug. 17.
