MRS. LEO SMITH

Mabel Unruh Smith, the daughter of Henry D. and Mary Boese Unruh, was born April 6, 1896, near Dundee, Kansas.

She enjoyed her schooling at the Dundee school and appreciated esjecially [sic] the training in group singing.

Mother was baptized upon the confession of her faith and received into the Bergthal Mennonite Church on May 31, 1914. The elder officiating was Rev. Peter Dirks.

She was married to Leo Smith on May 21, 1924. The day of her funeral would have marked the 34th anniversary of their marriage. Their life together was spent on a farm near Pawnee rock, Kansas. This home was blessed with two children.

An interest dear to her heart was that missionary activity be constantly expanded into new fields. Another great concern was that children in the home receive adequate Christian training.

Mother passed away quietly at the St. Rose hospital in Great Bend, Kansas on May 19, 1958, at 4:00 a. m., after an extended illness. Her suffering was borne bravely and patiently.

Survivors include her husband, Leo; a son, Marvin, of the home; a daughter and her husband, Alma and Bruce Griffin, missionaries in Nigeria, Africa. The grandchildren, whom she cherished, are Jeanette, Ruth, and David Griffin.

Brothers who survive are Walter of Great Bend, Kansas; Lincoln of Galva, Kansas; Austin of Enid, Okla.; Arthur of Kingman, Kansas; and Ralph. Sisters are Carrie (Mrs. John Smith) of Great Bend, Kansas, and Ida (Mrs. Cornelius Goertzen) of Walton, Kansas.

Our grief is lessened by the knowledge that her suffering has ended and that she is at rest where there is no sickness or sorrow.
