MRS. ERMA SLEEPER
Erma Sleeper, wife of William Sleeper, was born at Pierceton, Ind. on Dec.31, 1891, and passed away on Saturday night, Jan.12, 1957, after a long illness of cancer, aged 65 years and 14 days.
She moved to Elkhart in 1909 and was married to William Sleeper on June 8, 1910. Mr. Sleeper died May 24, 1952.
Survivors include five sons, Edward J., Donald L., and Carl L. Sleeper all of Elkhart, J. Fred at Kendallville, Ind., and William Jr. at South Milford, Ind.; two daughters, Ruth L. Sleeper and Georgia (Mrs. Marie Newell) both of Elkhart; 10 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; four brothers, Pete, William, and Wilbur Hamman, all of Boyd, Wisc. and C. Floyd Hamman of Eau Claire, Wisc.; and two sisters Mrs. Otto Beigle and Mrs. George Edward Warner, both of Augusta, Wisc.
She accepted Christ as her Savior at the age of 15 while the family was living in Wisconsin. In 1938 while Bro. Milton Brackbill was holding meetings in the Belmont Church at Elkhart she reconsecrated her life and united with the Belmont Mennonite church and was a faithful member until her death.
Funeral services were held at the Belmont Church on Tuesday, Jan. 15, at 2 P. M. in charge of the pastor, Bishop S. Jay Hostetler. A mixed quartet, Bro. and Sister Nevin Albrecht and Bro. and Sister Weir Stone, sang. Burial was made in the Rice Cemetery in Elkhart.
