Farm Accident Brings Death to Peter W. Siebert

Boyd, Okla., April 21, 1934. — At this time I must write about a very sad accident that happened at Coldwater, Texas, last week. Last Tuesay night J. P. Karbers received word that their son-in-law Peter W. Seibert was accidentally killed there. They immediately left for Coldwater and there they found that as Mr. Siebert had helped his uncle P. J. Penner grind feed with a Hammermill feed grinder one hammer bar had come loose, hitting and lacerating his chest so that he was killed instantly. Since both of Mr. Siebert's parents were buried in the M. B. cemetery near Hooker, the funeral was held in the M. B. church there. Rev. A. S. Schellenbeg from Coldwater, Tex., gave a very sympathetic sermon in the German language and Rev. P. D. Kiehn in the English language. The remains were laid to rest in the nearby marks by A. A. Wiens, Hooker. (The Review extends heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family and relatives. — M. D.) — F. F. Just.

Peter W. Siebert

Our dear husband and father Peter W. Siebert, was born on September 21, 1909, in Beaver County, Okla. Under the care of his dear parents he grew up to boyhood in the Hooker, Oklahoma, vicinity where he received an elementary education. When he was 13 years old his dear mother passed away and her loving care was denied him. But the prayers of his father and the special interest and care of his oldest sister Mary were a great aid to him.

At the age of 15 years he realized his lost condition without Christ and through the blood on Calvary his sins were pardoned. He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour in July, 1925, and upon confession of his faith was baptized by Rev. Henry B. Pauls, becoming a member of the Mennonite Brethren church. When he was 20 years of age his dear father passed away, leaving him an orphan and from that day he had to face the trials of this world and the storms of life by himself. In 1930 he chose Bena Karber as his helpmate to share the joys and sorrows with him on November 30 they were united in holy matrimony. Oh so few were the days that we were privileged to spend together and many a kind deed will escape our memory. To this union two sons were born: Wilbert Orlando, two years of age, and Lee Neal, two months old.

Peter was kind hearted with good intentions, but he was human and the trials and temptations did not pass him up. But through the blood of Calvary he always gained victory and his goal was that eternal home in the great beyond. His favorite verse which he repeatedly quoted was John 3,16. Of late he often spoke of his parents who have gone before. Recently when his sister Mary had said goodbye after a short visit, he said, Let's shake hands, although we will soon meet again. His last words were spoken to his little son, when he said: You are a nice little boy. Then he left to work, but soon afterwards was instantly killed in an accident with a grinder. Our hearts are bleeding and deep questions occupy our minds. But we find comfort in the promises of God's Word when we lift up our eyes to the hills from whence cometh all help. By faith we look beyond death to the day when we shall all be reunited with our loved ones.

The departed reached the age of 24 years, 8 months, and 9 days. he leaves to mourn his early departure, his beloved wife, two sons, three brothers and five sisters: John, Maria, Helen, Agnes, Lizzie, Jacob, Wanda and Frank; his wife's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob P. Karber, and five brothers and three sisters of his bereaved widow, besides many relatives and a host of friends. His uncles Peter Z. Wiebe and family from Ulysses, Kan., Jacob Z. Wiebe from Minneola, Kan., Frank Z. Wiebe, from Corn, Okla., and his aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Prieb (from near Buhler, Kan., were there to attend his funeral.

His mourning widow, Mrs. Bena Siebert.
