MRS. KATHARINA SIEBERT
(Mrs.) Katharina Siebert of Chilliwack, B.C. passed into the presence of the Lord on June 17, 1978. She was born to Franz and Katharina Schellenberg on July 28, 1901 in Blumenfeld, southern Russia. In 1914 she and her family moved to Slavgorod, Siberia. At the age of 19 she accepted the Lord as her Saviour and was baptized and received into the Mennonite Brethren Church. In 1925 she was married to John Henry Siebert. The following year she and her husband and an eight day old son emigrated to Canada, where they homesteaded in northern Saskatchewan for 14 years. A small group of Mennonite believers settled in Capasin, Sask., and formed a church of which her husband was the first minister. In 1940, the family with four children moved to Sardis, B.C. The following year they joined the Greendale Mennonite Brethren Church, her husband by immersion and she by transfer. They enjoyed the fellowship of the Greendale Church until 1959 when her husband's failing health necessitated a move from the farm to retirement in Chilliwack. At the Broadway Mennonite Brethren Church she became active in the women's fellowship. In 1974 she moved in the Tabor Home in Clearbrook. She was predeceased by her husband in 1965.
She is survived by son John and wife Rosalie of Granum, Alta., daughter Selma of Vancouver, and twins, Alberta and wife Lisa of Comox, B.C., and Frieda (Mrs. Peter) Nickel of Sardis; 12 grandchildren and a sister, Margaret, in the Soviet Union. Ministering at the funeral service at the Greendale Church on June 21 were Rev. Harry Heidebrecht and Rev. Dave Friesen.
