LAWRENCE F. SHROCK
Lawrence F. Shrock was born at Goshen, Indiana, August 2, 1876, the eldest son of Hannah and William Shrock. When a young boy he moved with his family to a farm near Aurora, Nebraska, and there he grew to manhood and was married to Anna Mourer on Christmas Eve, 1899. Early in 1906 he moved with his wife and young family to a farm at Comins, Michigan, and lived there until after the death of his wife in 1938 at which time be sold his farm and built a home at Fairview.
He served his community for many years, first as Justice of the Peace and then for many years as Supervisor of Clinton Township. He also served for more than four terms as Judge of Probate for Oscoda County, resigning in 1949 in the seventeenth consecutive year of his service there when failing health made it apparent that he was no longer able to carry on the work he so loved.
He had resided at the Sunnyside Nursing Home in Saginaw for the last fifteen months of his life and there passed away in the morning of June 2, 1952, aged 75 years and 10 months.
He leaves one son and three daughters: Wayne Shrock, Mrs. Emerson Lantz and Mrs. Leonard Brightstone, all of Saginaw, and Mrs. R. L. Miller of Fairview, and 33 grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters and three brothers, Mrs. J. Pletcher of Comins, Mrs. O. L. Stutesman and Ellis Shrock of Fairview, Bernard Shrock of Oscoda and Herman Shrock of Marion, many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was a charter member of the Comins Mennonite church and had always been active and interested in its progress.
Funeral services were conducted in the Fairview church on Wednesday at 2 p.m. with Rev. Jos. Atherton presiding, burial beside his wife in the family lot at Fairview.
