Former Pastor of Colorado Church Dies in Virginia

Harrisonburg. Va. — Rev. Earl E. Showalter, 79, who served in the Christian ministry for more than 43 years, died at Rockingham Memorial Hospital here on Jan. 6. A former resident of this vicinity, he had lived in Colorado for a number of years. He had served as pastor of the First Mennonite Church of Colorado Springs for the past eight years, returning here in December 1969. He was ordained to the ministry in 1926.

The funeral was conducted Jan. 8 at Weavers Mennonite Church here, with Samuel Janzen and Alvin Kanagy officiating. The body was sent to La Junta, Colo. for burial.

Survivors include his second wife, the former Lola V. Heatwole; two sons, Carl E. of Greeley, Colo. and Earl of La Junta; one sister, one brother, eight grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
