HARRY SHOWALTER
Harry Philip Showalter was born July 14, 1908 in Adams County, Roseland, Neb. to George A. and Amelia Nice Showalter. He passed to his eternal reward at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa on Nov. 5, 1960, at the age of 52 years, five months, and 22 days. He had been in normal health and had been working regularly. He was stricken with a heart attack during the night of Nov. 4 and passed away the next morning.
He is survived by his wife, Lala Bender Showalter; to whom he was married on Sept. 8, 1929. To this union were born three sons and one daughter. The following family members are left behind: Donald and Iva Hochstedler Showalter, and their three sons of Wellman, Dorothy of the home, Dale and Kathleen Bachman Showalter of Iowa city, and Darrel of the home.
He is also survived by three brothers and five sisters, Emma (Mrs. Noah Yoder) and Fannie (Mrs. Erlis Kinsinger), both of Wellman; William of Omaha, Neb., George of Anselmo, Neb., Ammon of Pomona, Calif., Mary (Mrs. Clifford Roberts) of Oxford, Alice (Mrs. William Ehrman) and Ada (Mrs. Isaac Grabill) both of Roseland, Neb.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one infant brother. He had been engaged in the trucking business in recent years and thus was widely known in the community.
He became a member of the Mennonite Church in Roseland in 1922, and transferred his membership to the West Union Mennonite Church in 1927 where he was a member at the time of his death. He frequently served as Sunday school teacher, and had taken part in the communion services the Sunday preceding his death.
Although his passing at 52 comes in middle life and was very sudden, it is the testimony of the family that they believe it to be the will of God.
