Funeral services for Mrs. Sam Shantz, 73, were conducted Saturday forenoon at the Hesston Mennonite Church, with Rev. Richard Yordy officiating. Mrs. Shantz died Jan. 4 at Schowalter Villa in Hesston, where she and her husband had resided the past four years. The former Ida Steckly, she was born at Beaver Crossing, Neb. and with her parents moved to Alberta at about age 13. She married Sam Shantz at Carstairs, Alberta in 1916, and they lived in Canada and Nebraska until moving to Wichita, Kan. in 1961. Survivors are her husband, of Schowalter Villa; a son Willard of Memphis, Tenn.; one daughter, Mrs. Edna Yoder of Hesston; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; four brothers, Joseph Steckly of Preston, Ont., Harry Steckly of San Jose, Calif., Alvin Steckly of Carstairs, and Floyd Steckly of Milford, Neb.; two sisters, Mrs. Lydia Eicher of Hesston and Viola Steckly of San Francisco.
