Retired Farmer, 89, Called by Death
Goshen, Ind. — Charlie A. Shantz, who farmed in the Elkhart vicinity for more than 50 years, died here Feb. 28 at the home of a son-in-law and daughter, Rev. and Mrs. R. R. Smucker. He was 89.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Prairie Street Mennonite Church in Elkhart, of which he was a member. J. B. Shenk and J. D. Graber of Elkhart, and John Gingerich of Johnstown, Pa. officiated.
Surviving in addition to Mrs. Smucker, a former missionary to India, are three other daughters, Mrs. Charles Shaum of Hesston, Kan., Mrs. William Gehman of Elkhart and Mrs. Walter Roupp of Edwardsburg, Mich.; one sister, Mrs. Cora Linhoss of Elkhart; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
