Marion, Pa. &#8212; The funeral of Charles E. Shank, 76, long-time deacon of the Marion Mennonite Church, was one of the largest gatherings ever held at this church. Irvin Lehman, senior minister of the church gave the main message at the services, held Oct. 21.

Mr. Shank served as deacon of the congregation for 45 years. As the work of the congregation reached out into nearby communities, five deacon helpers were ordained to assist him, one of whom was his son Marlin.

A retired farmer, he lived on and owned the farm near the church known as the Lesher-Shank homestead until retirement age. He and his wife, Naomi (Martin) Shank, looked after things around the meeting house and frequently opened their home to visitors or members of the congregation.

He was stricken while helping at a church camp, and died in the hospital several days later.

Surviving in addition to his widow are six sons and one daughter.

Long-Time Deacon of Pennsylvania Church Called by Death

Marion, Pa. — The funeral of Charles E. Shank, 76, long-time deacon of the Marion Mennonite Church, was one of the largest gatherings ever held at this church. Irvin Lehman, senior minister of the church gave the main message at the services, held Oct. 21.

Mr. Shank served as deacon of the congregation for 45 years. As the work of the congregation reached out into nearby communities, five deacon helpers were ordained to assist him, one of whom was his son Marlin.

A retired farmer, he lived on and owned the farm near the church known as the Lesher-Shank homestead until retirement age. He and his wife, Naomi (Martin) Shank, looked after things around the meeting house and frequently opened their home to visitors or members of the congregation.

He was stricken while helping at a church camp, and died in the hospital several days later.

Surviving in addition to his widow are six sons and one daughter.
