MRS. MARGARET SHANK
Margaret Hunsberger, daughter of the late Peter and Sophrona(Heinrich) Hunsberger, was born near Wakarus, Ind. Feb25, 1864, peacefully fell asleep from the infirmities of old age in the Mennonite Home for the Aged, Eureka, Ill., on April 25, 1956. Her age was 92 years and two months.
On Feb.3,1884, she was united in marriage with Jacob Shank (1856-1905), son of Minister Michael W. Shank (who had served as pastor of the Teegarden Mennonite church), and Nancy Raymer Shank.
In the spring of 1896 Jacob and Margaret Shank accepted Christ and were received by water baptism into the fellowship of the Prairie Street Mennonite Church in Elkhart, Ind. Two months later, on April 16, 1896, Bishop John F. Funk ordained Jacob to the ministry of the Gospel in the Olive Mennonite Church where he served faithfully as pastor until his untimely death on Nov. 27,1905.
Jacob and Margaret were blessed with only one child, Clarence, who was born Feb. 26, 1885, and who followed in the footsteps of his father and grandfather when he was ordained to the ministry on May 5, 1917,since which date he has been a member in the Olive Congregation and its outpost at Hudson lake,Ind. As Bro Clarence looks back to his boyhood he can testify that he had a good mother, and that she tried to do her part to bring him up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Sister Margaret's hope was in Christ her Saviour.
In addition to her son the deceased is survived by three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Margaret always enjoyed the visits of her son and family, and wrote them some lovely letters which they will treasure through the years.
Funeral services were conducted April 28 in the home of Clarence, her son, and at the Olive Church by J. C. Wenger, Elno Steiner and Daniel H. Stoltzfus. Burial was made in the South Cemetery of the Olive Church.
