Father of Missionaries Dies at Goshen
Goshen, Ind. — Funeral services for Charles L. Shank, 82, father of two missionaries and himself a former missionary to India, were held Feb. 21 at the Goshen College Mennonite Church. He died Feb. 19 at Goshen Hospital.
Mr. Shank was a 1914 graduate of Goshen College, and in that year was married to Chrissie C. Yoder. In 1915 they went to the India mission field where he established an industrial school and taught crafts. They returned to the homeland in 1919 due to the illness of a daughter, Ruth. Mrs. Shank died in 1929.
Mr. Shank was a research engineer, tool and die maker, draftsman and machinist. He moved here from North Canton, Ohio in 1940.
In 1939 he was married to Lydia F. Shenk, who survives with three sons and four daughters; 19 grandchildren; one sister, Mrs Earl Buckwalter of Crystal Springs, Kan.; and one brother, Rev. J. W. Shank of Hesston, Kan. Among the children are Mrs. Glenn Musselman, missionary to Brazil now on furlough in Goshen, and David Shank, missionary in Belgium
