Amish Bishop Dies After Brief Illness
New Haven, Ind. — A largely attended funeral was held in the Amish settlement here on Jan. 2 as services for Bishop Joe S. Schwartz were held at the farm home.
Bishop Schwartz, who was nearing his 70th birthday, participated in church services on Christmas day and suffered a heart attack Friday morning, Dec. 27. He was admitted to the hospital and placed under intensive care, but suffered another attack Sunday morning and died on Dec. 30.
Survivors include his widow, two sons and five daughters and their families.
