Manager of Berne's 'Amishville' Killed In One-Car Crash

Berne, Ind. — David Y. Schwartz, 32, manager and host of “Amishville, USA,“ well-known tourist attraction near here, died instantly in a one-car crash early Saturday morning, Oct. 24.

Amishville, an authentic Amish farm with campgrounds for tourists, was opened two years ago by several Berne businessmen. Schwartz conducted tours of the farm and gave lectures on Amish life in both English and German. The farm was featured on a national television program last December.

Schwartz apparently was returning home when his car hit an embankment and overturned, throwing him out. The vehicle then caught fire and was demolished.

Survivors include his widow and nine children, all at home, and 15 brothers and sisters, all of the Seymour, Mo. community.

Funeral services were conducted at the John Hilty residence, and burial was made in the Amish cemetery near Amishville.
