TWO-CAR COLLISION NEAR HUNTINGTON, INDIANA CLAIMS LIVES OF DR. AND MRS. J. S. SCHULTZ

HIGHWAY TRAGEDY - Dr. J. S. Schultz, dean emeritus of Bluffton College, and Mrs. Schultz died in a collision near Huntington, Ind. on Oct. 17. A photo of Mrs. Schultz was not available.

Bluffton, Ohio. — A two-car collision at the intersection of state highways 5 and 124 south of Huntington, Ind. Friday forenoon, Oct. 17, claimed the lives of Dr. J. S. Schultz, well-known Mennonite educator, and Mrs. Schultz, the former Sara Bargen.

Dr. Schultz, 70, dean emeritus of Bluffton College, died in Huntington County Hospital about a half hour after the crash. Mrs. Schultz was killed instantly. both were thrown from the car when it was struck broadside by a southbound motorist.

The couple was en rote to Chenoa, Ill. to visit their daughter and family, the Dr. Russell Oyers.

Dean for 20 Years

Dr. Schultz was in semi-retirement from the Bluffton College faculty. He came to Bluffton as assistant professor of education in 1924, later becoming professor of education and serving as dean of the college from 1934 to 1954. At the time of his death, he was teaching a seminar in psychology and conducting a survey of alumni.

Both natives of Mountain Lake, Minn., Dr. and Mrs. Schultz were married there June 30, 1914. Dr. Schultz taught at Mennonite institutes in southern Manitoba and was a school principal in Minnesota before coming to Bluffton.

Surviving the couple are their three children, Harold, of South Bend, Ind., Karl of San Lorenzo, Calif., and Mrs. Oyer.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the First Mennonite Church of Bluffton.
