Mennonite Pioneer of Minnesota is Laid to Rest.

Mt. Lake, Minn., May 2. — Funeral services for Jacob Schultz, one of the oldest men in the community, were held from the First Mennonite church Sunday afternoon. It was an especially large funeral, and several outside ministers, relatives of the deceased were present for the services. The Rev. I. J. Dick, pastor of the church, was in charge, and other speakers were the Rev. David Schultz of Marion, S. D., and the Rev. G. P. Schultz of Chicago. Both of these men are nephews of the deceased.

Mr. Schultz was one of the early pioneers in this community coming here in 1875. Since then he has continuously made this his home. Facts from his life, as brought out in the obituary, the greater portion of which he prepared himself follow:

He was born on July 6, 1848, in the village of Gnadenheim, South Russia, where he received his schooling and grew to manhood. In 1868, he joined the church which had Elder Bernard Peters as its pastor and in 1872, he was married to Anna Voth. In 1874, the family came to America settling in South Dakota, where they remained in the first winter on a farm 35 miles from the nearest town. the following spring he came to Minnesota with his father to look over the Minnesota region, and they were so impressed with the Mountain Lake community that they came here in the spring of 1875. — Mt.
