HENRY C. SCHULTZ
Henry C. Schultz, the son of Christian and Helena Rudiger Schultz, was born on July 15, 1877, near Pawnee Rock, Kansas, being a resident of this community all his life.
Upon confession of faith he was baptized on June 10, 1894, into the membership of the Bergthal Mennonite church. Throughout his life he maintained a keen and faithful interest in all activities of the church. In June 1922, he was called to serve as deacon for life in the local Mennonite church. He always accepted these responsibilities most willingly wherever his help and council [sic counsel] were needed.
On Feb. 23, 1898, he was united in marriage to Effie Dirks and they shared pleasure and responsibilities for over 54 years until her death on April 23, 1952. To this union three children, Lorena, Dorris, and Bert, were born. The daughter Lorena and the son Bert preceded both the mother and father in death.
In 1948 Mr. and Mrs. Schultz had the blessed privilege, for which they were most grateful, of celebrating their golden wedding anniversary with a church program in the midst of many relatives and friends.
Although having endured many ailments during his later life, climaxed with a severe heart attack four years ago, Mr. Schultz again enjoyed quite normal health and continued to live in his farm home. On Tuesday afternoon, May 18, 1954, he seemingly suffered another heart attack and died very unexpectedly. He attained the age of 76 years, 10 months, and three days.
He leaves to mourn his departure a daughter and son-in-law, Dorris and George Penner, and two grandsons Keith and Donald Penner; one brother, Pete Schultz, and seven sisters, Eva, Mrs. Sam Boese, Minnie, Mrs. Jacob Boese, Mary, Mrs. Henry Richert, Susie, Mrs. George Smith, Bertina, Mrs. Gustave Nichols, Lena, Mrs. Harry Unruh, Martha, Mrs. Lawrence Koehn; together with many other relatives, friends and neighbors.
Even though he had suffered much he never complained and was always happy and thankful for the many blessings he was privileged to enjoy. To those who knew him best the life he lived among them will be a blessed memory.
