DAUGHTER OF KANSAS COUPLE CALLED BY DEATH AT PHOENIX

Protection, Kan. — Funeral services for Doris Jean Schultz, 15, whose death occurred July 6 at Phoenix, Ariz., were held Sunday afternoon at the Protection Mennonite Church. Preceding the services here, memorial services were held at the Sunnyslope Mennonite Church near Phoenix, of which she was a member.

The young woman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Schultz, had been ill all of her life. The family moved to Phoenix seven years ago for her health. About a year ago doctors found that she was suffering from an incurable illness.

DORIS JEAN SCHULTZ

Doris Jean Schultz, daughter of Joe and Nellie (Selzer) Schultz, was born near Protection, Kan., Oct 17, 1944 and died at Phoenix, Ariz., July 6, 1960, age 15 years, 8 months and 17 days. Near survivors include her parents, one brother, Don, her maternal grandparents and grandfather, Schultz. One brother preceded her in death.

Doris had never been well physically. To help her, the family moved to Phoenix in Sept. 1952. Here there were times that relief seemed to have been found. However, about a year ago, doctors learned that her real sickness was an illness that medical science has been unable to combat.

Doris was a good patient. In the things she did to pass the time, she showed ability above the average. Hanging on the wall of the Schultz living room is an oil painting that Doris very carefully completed during the last weeks of her life. This special masterpiece is a lasting memento of her noble and courageous character.

Doris accepted Christ as her Saviour in early 1957. She was baptized into the Mennonite church, Phoenix, Ariz., in April, 1957.

Memorial services were held in the Sunnyslope church on the evening of July 7, in charge of Melvin Ruth. Final rites were held at the Protection (Kan.) Mennonite church with Sanford C. Oyer in charge. Burial was made in the adjoining cemetery.
