WILHELM W. SCHROEDER

Wilhelm Schroeder was born July 31, 1894 at Petershagen. South Russia. After receiving his elementary schooling there he graduated from the Halbstadt Secondary School. World War I, the Russian revolution, and its aftermath greatly affected his life. On October 31. 1923 he married Sara Doerksen and in 1925 they emigrated to Canada. After five years in the Meadows-Pigeon Lake-Headingly area of Manitoba they moved to the Steinbach area.

In 1928 he found salvation in Jesus Christ and in 1934 became a member of the Steinbach Mennonite Brethren church, where he was ordained to the ministry in 1940. He was widely known in Steinbach and surrounding communities for his active involvement in the work of the Lord with singing, witnessmg, youth work, personal evangelism, and preaching. For some years he was assistant pastor of the Steinbach church and did extension work for Manitoba Home Missions. After retirement he continued to conduct home Bible Studies.

Amid the trials of over two months of illness he repeatedly praised the grace and goodness of Christ. His last audible word was "Ueberwunden" (overcome). He went to be with his Lord on March l0. His wife predeceased him in 1973.

He is survived by three daughters and five sons: Sally of Quito, Ecuador; William and wife Hilda, Winkler. Man.; Elfrieda Winnipeg; George and wife Helen, Ilorin Nigeria; Mary and husband Robert Loewen Steinbach; Leonard and wife Mary, Lethbridge. Alta; Harold and wife Willo, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia; Walter and wife Jean, Winnipeg; 13 grandchildren; two sisters. Maria Goossen in Russia and Sara Dueck in Paraguay; and many other relatives and friends.

The funeral service was conducted in the Steinbach church by Rev. Corny Rempel, Rev. H. A. Regehr. and Rev. Frank Isaac, on March 14.
