JOHN SCHROEDER

John Schroeder, son of John and Sarah (Unruh) Schroeder, was born in Marion county southeast of Goessel, Kansas. In early childhood he attended school in the Heimbaugh School, Dist. 81.

He was baptized upon confession of faith in his Redeemer Jesus Christ by Rev. Peter Balzer on June 11, 1905, and became a member of the Alexanderwohl church which membership he retained until his death.

He was united in marriage to Maria Buller on Nov. 6, 1908, by Rev. Peter Buller. This union was blessed with two children. This union however was dissolved by death of the mother on Nov. 28, 1921. He had shared life’s joys and sorrows in this happy, union for 13 years and 22 days.

Bro. Schroeder found a new life’s companion and mother for his children in Margaretha Unruh on Nov. 24, 1922, with whom he shared life’s joys and sorrows for 31 years, three months and two days. To this union two children were born, one of whom died in early infancy. The departed also experienced the hardships and privations of pioneer life. His father was taken in death when he was but a lad of nine years of age. Naturally this deprived him of many opportunities of boys who have the blessing of both fatherly and motherly care.

The departed farmed all of his life southeast of Goessel, Kansas.

Bro. Schroeder enjoyed quite good health all of his life until the last few years when he submitted to surgery and had to be under doctor’s care frequently. He was a loving father, interested in his family, was greatly concerned about his life’s companion, and will be greatly missed.

In his last illness after having been admitted to the Axtell Christian hospital at Newton, Kansas he reminded his loved ones that it is very possible that they might have to get along without him.

He also expressed to his family that he is ready to pass to the heavenly home if it is God’s will. In his last days of life one of the verses of Holy Scripture upon which he leaned and rested his faith was Matth. 11:28, “Come unto me all ye that labour, and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” We believe that this heavenly rest he now enjoys. He received the best of medical and hospital care from the doctors and nurses which he greatly appreciated, but God’s plan was different, and he was called to his reward at 6:15 the morning of Feb. 26, 1954, reaching the age of 70 years; seven months and four days. He leaves to mourn his sudden departure his wife Margaretha Schroeder; three children, Lydia and Rudolf of the home, Hillsboro, Kansas, Herbert and wife Bertha, Walton, Kansas; three grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Sarah Janzen, Newton, Kansas, and Miss Susie Schroeder, Goessel, Kansas, and many other relatives and friends.

“For we have no continuing city but we seek one to come.” Heb. 13:14. “He that overcometh the same shall be clothed in white raiment.” Rev. 3:5

Funeral services were held in the Bergen Funeral home and at the Alexanderwohl church on Sunday afternoon, Feb. 28, 1954, in charge of Rev. P. A. Wedel, assisted by Rev. H. B. Schmidt.
