ELFRIEDA JOHANNA SCHROEDER

Elfrieda Johanna Schroeder of Winkler, Man. passed away May 14. She was born July 12, 1927 in Winnipeg. She grew up in Morris, Man. The youngest of 6 children, she made up for her size with determination and drive. In her youth she received Christ. In 1951 she was baptized and joined Niverville (Man.) MB Church, since there was no MB church in Morris. After high school she worked for the Bank of Montreal in Morris and Winnipeg. She took a Christian service assignment one summer and then studied for a year at MB Bible College. She graduated in nursing from Misericordia Hospital in Winnipeg in 1961. She was matron at Salem Home in Winkler for several years. She got her Bachelor of Nursing from the University of Manitoba and taught in the Health Sciences Centre and Misericordia Hospital. In 1978 she returned to Salem Home as director of nursing. She worked at Eden Mental Health Centre until taking early retirement. She loved the church, serving in choirs, the diaconate and other ways. She loved life, enjoying trips and functions, making her last overseas trip to Israel. Cancer was diagnosed 6 years ago. The support of family and friends like Olga Wiens was a blessing. She is remembered as a generous, caring, loving and fun sister and as one who loved and served her Saviour to the end. Predeceased by her parents and sis- ter Mary Stoesz, she is mourned by sisters Katy Enns of Niverville, Louise Bartlette of Morris and Agatha Martens and Erica Voth of Winnipeg and brother John of Morris. The funeral was May 19 in Winkler MB Church, with Wally Klassen and Jake Neufeld ministering
