Long-Time Employee Of Printing Company Dies Unexpectedly
Employees of the Herald Book and Printing Company as well as the staff of the Mennonite Weekly Review this week mourned the untimely death of a long-time fellow worker and associate.
Virgil M. Schroeder, 38, press operator in the Herald plant, collapsed at his home in Newton on Sunday forenoon and was rushed to Bethel Deaconess Hospital by ambulance, but was pronounced dead upon arrival. Death was believed due to a heart attack. He had a history of heart difficulty, and had complained of not feeling well last week but hui death was entirely unexpected and came as a shock to his friends and associates.
Virgil was born at Gooses on Feb. 4, 1927. For the past 18 years he had been employed by the Book and Printing Company, and for about 14 years he had operated the newspaper press on which the Review is printed. His sudden passing may result in some delay in printing and mailing this week's paper.
He was married to Sylvia Wiebe in 1948, and she survives, with their children, Yvonne, Jerry and Keith of th home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. L. Schroeder of North Newton; and four sisters, Mrs. Mike Schmidt, Mrs. Arnold Balzer, Mrs. Leroy Bartel, and Mrs. Leonard Goering, all of Newton.
Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Faith Mennonite Church in Newton, of which he was a member. Rev. Victor Sawatzky officiated, assisted by Rev. H. B. Schmidt of Moundridge. Burial was made in Greenwood Cemetery.

VIRGIL M. SCHROEDER
Virgil Milford Schroeder, son of William. and Gertrude Balzer Schroeder, was born Feb. 4, 1927, in Goessel, Kan. He died unexpectedly on Sunday, May 30, 1965, at the age of 38 years, three months, and 26 days.
His early years and youth were spent on a farm near Goessel. He attended Sand Creek Grade School and graduated from Goessel High School.
Virgil faithfully attended the Tabor Mennonite Church and was baptized on May 20, 1945 by Rev. P. H. Richert. He was faithfully instructed by his parents as well as by his church. After the Faith Mennonite Church was organized he transferred his membership to this church and remained a faithful member until the time of his death.
On April 6, 1948, he was united in marriage with Sylvia Wiebe, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. K. Wiebe, Goessel. The wedding took place at the Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church with Rev. Philip A. Wedel officiating. They made their home in Newton where he was an employee of the Herald Book and Printing Company. This marriage was blessed with the birth of four children, two sons and two daughters. One daughter, Diane Marie, died in infancy.
Virgil's Christian character was marked by a genuine warmth and sympathetic concern for others. He was always ready to help others. His friendly and helpful influence has been felt by many who have experienced his kindness.
He is survived by his wife, Sylvia, and three children: Jerry Wayne, 13, Yvonne Fay, 10, and Keith Ray, 8; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William I. Schneider; and four sisters, Sylvia, Mrs. Mike Schmidt, Evelyn, Mrs. Arnold Balzer, Ina, Mrs. Leroy Bartel, and Delores, Mrs. Leonard Goering; and many close friends and relatives.
