— Funeral services will be held at the Alexanderwohl church Friday afternoon at 2:00 for Mrs. Earl Schroeder, 21, of Route 3, Newton who died Monday afternoon at the Bethel Deaconess hospital. She is survived by her husband and infant son, James Michael, born on Wednesday, Jan. 3, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Smith of Canton, a sister Evelyn and brother Dennis.

MRS. RACINE (SMITH) SCHROEDER

Mrs. Racine (Smith) Schroeder, daughter of Dan J. and Mrs. (Schaare) Smith, was born Jan. 8, 1930, at Hillsboro, Kans. She received her public school training in the Hillsboro community and surrounding communities and graduated from the Goessel high school in the spring of 1948.

She was baptized upon confession of faith in her Redeemer Jesus Christ on June 5, 1949, and became a member of the Alexanderwohl church, whose faith member she remained until her sudden death.

She was married to Earl Schroeder on Sept. 8, 1948, with whom she shared life's joys and sorrows for two years and four months. They were an unusually happy couple and in their home they always had the family altar, and took the greatest care to live not only for this world but also for eternity.

In recent months they were especially hopeful and happy because of a child to be born into their home. On Jan. 3, 1951, little James Michael was born at the Bethel hospital, Newton, Kans., and brought much joy to them.

However on Jan. 8, 1951, in the late afternoon Racine was taken in death very suddenly and unknown even to the hospital nurses. Her death was caused by a blood clot. This again shows how uncertain life is and how certain death is. It also shows that the time and condition of death are uncertain. It may suddenly strike or it may gently close our eyes. In the case of the departed death seeminging [sic] gently closed her eyes, because from all appearances she left this scene of life without a struggle.

She leaves to mourn her sudden departure her husband Earl, and son, James Michael; her parents, Mr. and Mr. Dan Smith; one brother Dennis, and one sister Evelyn: also her parents-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. David Schroeder, three sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Art Boese, Lois, David, Jean, and Ivan: and one brother-in-law, Arthur Boese, and many other relatives and friends.

Racine passed to her heavenly reward on the day of her birthday, reaching the age of 21 years. One brother and sister preceded her in death.

Funeral services were conducted on Jan. 12 from the Bergen funeral home and the Alexanderwohl church, in charge of the pastor, Rev. Philip A. Wedel, assisted by Rev. Eli Cook of the Mission church of Elbing and Rev. Harvey Jantz of the Friedensthal Mennonite church. Pallbearers were Clinton Redger, Roland Unruh, Ben Krehbiel, Elmer Balzer, Howard Schroeder and Art Janzen.
