Peter H. Schroeder, Sohn von Heinrich und Sara Schmidt Schroeder, ward am 15. Febr. 1862 in Südrußland geboren und kam 1874 mit Eltern nach Spring Valley McPherson Co. Kansas, wo er auf der Farm aufwuchs und die Volksschule besuchte. Später besuchte er die Balzer Vorbereitungsschule zu Goessel und die Fortbildungsschule in Halstead, die Canton Hochschule und auch Bethel College. Am 15. August 1880 ward er getauft und Glied der Alexanderwohl Gemeinde. Am 5. Juni 1887 heiratete er Katharina Richert, die aber schon am 4. Nov. 1894 starb. Am 9. Okt. 1897 heiratete er Amalia Nickel. Diese Ehe ward mit 4 Söhnen und 1 Tochter gesegnet. Ein Sohn starb in 1911. Der Heimgerufene wohnte auf seiner Farm zu Spring Valley bis 1930 als er nach Goessel zog. Er starb am 10. Febr. 1945 im Alter von 82 J. 11 M. und 25 Tagen und es trauern um ihn seine Witwe, 3 Söhne: Victor, Canton, Kans.; Ernst, Hutchinson, Kans.; Bato, daheim; 1 Tochter, Frau Ferdinand Graves, Newton; 2 Schwiegertöchter, 1 Schwiegersohn, 8 Enkel und viele freunde. Wiewohl der Abgerufene sonst eine starke Person war, so versagte in den letzten Jahren seine Gesundheit und er mußte viel leiden. Nun ist er zu seiner Ruhe eingegangen.

— Funeral services for P. H. Schroeder, a well known retired farmer at Goessel, were held Wednesday afternoon at the Alexanderwohl church. Mr. Schroeder died at 8:45 Saturday evening, Fbe. 10, at his home in Goessel. he is survived by his wife and four children.

P. H. SCHROEDER
Peter H. Schroeder, son of Henry and Sara Schmidt Schroeder, was born in South Russia on February 15, 1862. He came to this country with his parents when he was 12 years old and settled in Spring Valley township, McPherson county, Kansas.
He received his education in the Balzer Preparatory school at Goessel, Kansas, the Ewert school in Halstead, Kansas, Canton high school and Bethel college.
He was baptized upon confession of faith in his Redeemer, on August 15, 1880, and joined the Alexanderwohl church.
On June 5, 1887, he was united in marriage to Katherine Richert, who passed away on November 4, 1894.
On October 9, 1897, he was married to Amelia Nickel. This union was blessed with five children, four sons and one daughter. One son preceded him in death at the age of 11 years.
Mr. Schroeder lived on his farm in Spring Valley township until about 14 years ago when he moved to the town of Goessel.
He passed away Saturday evening, February 10, 1945, reaching the age of 82 years, 11 months and 25 days.
He leaves to mourn his sudden departure his widow, Mrs. Amelia Schroeder; three sons, Victor of Canton; Ernest of Hutchinson; Bato of the home; one daughter, Mrs. Ferdinand Graves of Newton; two daughters-in-law; one son-in-law; one sister, Mrs. J. J. Enns of Canton; one brother, A. H. Schroeder of Newton; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
The last years of his live were marked by considerable pain and suffering and we all shall miss him, but we grant him the rest accorded by the Lord with the children of God.
Funeral services were held at the Bergen Funeral Home on Wednesday afternoon, February 14, at 1:30 with Minister L. E. Lindsted officiating.
Further services in the Alexanderwohl Mennonite church were conducted by Rev. P. A. Penner of Newton and Rev. Phil Wedel of the home church.
The song, “Ist’s auch eine Freude, Mensch geboren sein?” was sung by the congregation as was requested by the deceased. Other songs were sung by a quartet composed of Milton Reimer, Johnny Reimer, W. H. Unrau and Otto Quiring. Pallbearers were his nephews, Henry Schroeder, H. M. Schroeder, P. A. Voth, R. P. Schroeder, Ferd Schroeder and Roland Schroeder. Interment was in the family lot of the church cemetery.
