JOHN W. SCHROEDER

John W. Schroeder was born in Marion, S. D. on Nov. 21, 1890 to William and Katharina Schroeder. He died at the age of 70 years, eight months, and 10 days on Aug. 31, 1961 at his home in Floodwood, Minn.

He was married to Eva Becker on Sept. 2, 1913. His death came only two days before their 48th anniversary. They spent the first years of married life in Montana and South Dakota and the last 27 years on a farm near Floodwood.

Mr. Schroeder accepted the Lord as his Saviour in 1908 and was baptized the same year. He also joined the E.M.B. church at that time, and was a member until his death.

The Bible was his treasure and he sought constant guidance in it. His spiritual insight and understanding of the Word, truly a gift of the Holy Spirit, gave him countless opportunities to serve as counseller, S. S. teacher and superintendent, deacon and church board member.

During his illness, the Lord gave him grace and peace to valiantly endure ten months of severe pain.

In the closing weeks of his illness he prayed earnestly for the Lord to take him to his heavenly home. However, he felt compelled to discharge two obligations which burdened him heavily. One of these had been contant [sic] throughout his his life, and that was to reach his neighborhood for Christ. The other was to transmit to Christians the missionary vision which he had acquired as a result of his visit to a mission field in 1960.

Surviving besides his wife Eva are seven children, Emma, Mrs. A. A. Dyck of Guayaquil, Ecuador, Edward of Floodwood, Wanda, Mrs. Jacob Teichroew of Frazer, Mont., Olivia, Mrs. David Carlson of Hibbing, Minn., Lillian, Mrs. Harold D. Epp of Hutchinson, Kan., Lloyd of Babaoyo [sic Babahoyo], Ecuador, and Leroy of Lincoln, Neb.; 24 grandchildren; three brothers,Frank of Sioux Falls, S. D., Will of Marion, S. D. and Gustav of Paonia, Colo.; two sisters, Marie, Mrs. David Becker of Freeman, S. D. and Mrs. Katie Peters of Moses Lake, Wash. — The Family.
