— John P. Schroeder, 75, retired farmer and insurance agent of Goessel, died at the Bethesda Hospital there Sunday evening. He had been hospitalized since Friday due to a stroke of paralysis. funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon at the Goessel Mennonite church, with Rev. Levi Koehn in charge. Mr. Schroeder was a lifelong resident of Marion County. He is survived by his wife, the former Marie C. Goertz; thee sons, Richmond J. of Newton, E. Kenneth of Canton, and Lloyd S. of Route 2, Newton; two brothers, sep en sisters and 10 grandchildren.

JOHN P. SCHROEDER

John P. Schroeder, son of Henry J. and Eva (Pankratz) Schroeder, was born April 6, 1885 in Marion County, Kansas and passed away Jan. 29, 1961, reaching the age of 75 years, nine months and 23 days.

He was baptized upon confession of his faith June 11, 1905 by Elder Peter Balzer and was received as a member of the Alexanderwohl Church. When the Goessel Mennonite Church was organized in 1920, he was one of the charter members and was regular in attending the services.

He was united in marriage to Marie Goertz on Sept. 30, 1917. They made their home in the Springfield community where he attended school. He also attended the Bethel academy for a year. When he retired from farming they changed their residence to Goessel. Being of a somewhat quiet disposition and a lover of good books, he enjoyed spending much of his leisure time in reading. He was always concerned about the welfare of his family and received a great deal of pleasure from his grandchildren.

On the morning of Jan. 27 he suffered a stroke, and after three days quietly passed away on Jan. 29.

He leaves to mourn his passing his widow, Marie; three sons, Richmond and wife Martha of Newton, Kenneth and wife Ruby of rural Canton, and Lloyd and wife Marlene of rural Newton; 10 grandchildren; two brothers and seven sisters, five sisters-in-law and nine brothers-in-law, and many friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters, three brothers-in-law and his parents-in-law.

Funeral services were held Feb. 1 at the Goessel Mennonite Church with Rev. Levi Koehn officiating. Burial was made at the church cemetery. — The Family.
