JOHANN J. SCHROEDER
Johann J. Schroeder, son of Johann and Helena (Nickle [sic Nickel]) Schroeder, was born Oct 14, 1860, at Michalin, in Polish Russia.
Not much is known of his early boyhood. However, he was baptized on April 5, 1874. At the age of 14 he was brought to America by his father who was elder of the Gnadenberg Mennonite church. His parents settled in Kansas where he grew to manhood.
On May 2, 1889, he married Anna Emalie Penner. To this union were born five children: Helena, who died at the age of nine days, Anna, who died at the age of 12 years, Richard, Armin and William.
In 1906 he brought his family to Idaho where they pioneered on a homestead four-and one-half miles southwest of Aberdeen. He and his wife were charter members of the First Mennonite church of Aberdeen and later of the Emanuel Mennonite church (Homestead church.)
In 1920 the family moved to the Fairview district midway between Aberdeen and American Falls where the deceased resided until his death on Oct. 9, 1954. He lived to an age of 93 years, 11 months and 25 days.
During his life he was a faithful and active member of the Mennonite church, and a loving and self-sacrificing father. He was preceded in death by his wife on April 29, 1949, after nearly 60 years of married life. He is survived by three sons, two daughters-in-law, 13 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.
