HENRY W. SCHROEDER

Henry W. Schroeder, son of Henry D. and Anna Wiens Schroeder, was born Sept. 12, 1893 at Inman, Kans. He entered his eternal rest on Nov. 25, 1972, at the age of 79.

At a young age Henry moved with his family to Medford, Okla. where his mother passed away. A few years later his family married Marie Martens and together they reared the children in the ways of the Lord.

In 1905 his parents moved to the Adams, Okla. community. It was there under the ministry of Rev. H. B. Pauls that Henry came to know the Lord as his personal Savior in 1928. He was baptized in 1929 and joined the Hooker Mennonite Brethren Church.

Henry served the Lord in the church for many years. He was ordained as a deacon on Oct. 13, 1946 at Bakersfield, Calif. and served there for four years. Later he also served as deacon at Bethany M. B. church for a number of years. He also enjoyed serving at jail services by way of sharing his testimony.

Henry was married to Sarah Friesen on June 19, 1930 at the Hooker M. B. Church by Rev. H. B. Pauls. To this union were born two sons and two daughters. They spent their early years farming in Oklahoma, and later lived at Bakersfield, Dinuba and Fresno, Calif., where Henry was employed in the carpenter trade until his retirement.

He leaves to mourn his departure his wife of Fresno; two sons, Allen of Los Angeles, Calif. and Delano of San Jose, Calif.; two daughters, Lavina, Mrs. Carl Wohlgemuth of Hesston, kan. and Loretta, Mrs. Charles L. Smith of Laurel Bay, S. C.; nine grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Gaede of Lancaster, Calif. and Mrs. J. H. Martens of Adams, Okla.; five half-brothers, Herb and Eldo of Adams, Okla., Waldo and Dan of Hooker, Okla. and Arthur of Sunnyvale, Calif.; two half-sisters, Mrs. Johnny Klassen of Adams, Okla. and Mrs. Martha Gaede of Cleo Springs, Okla. He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

His favorite song was “Where He Leads I’ll Follow.” His favorite text was John 14.
