FORMER GOESSEL, KAN. RESIDENT DIES

Ferndale, Wash. — Henry R. Schroeder, 85, formerly of Goessel, Kan., died in a Bellingham hospital May 1 after suffering a stroke of paralysis on April 16.

Mr. and Mrs. Schroeder moved here from Kansas in 1948, and observed their 65th wedding anniversary last year. His widow survives, with their three sons and three daughters and their families.

Funeral services were held at the Glendale Mennonite Church, where he was an active member.

HENRY R. SCHROEDER

Henry R. Schroeder, son of Jacob and Margareth [sic Margaretha] Schroeder, was born on Feb.. 4, 1879 in Spring Valley Township, McPherson County, Kansas. His school years were limited, but he thought highly of his teachers. They were Jacob Buller, Pete Krause, Henry Richert, P. H. Voth, and Rev. Peter Balzer.

He was united in marriage to Eva Schmidt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Schmidt, on Dec. 15, 1898 by Rev. Peter Balzer. He lived on the farm most of his life. He also did painting and carpenter work.

In 1910-11 he and mother served 11 months on the Hopi Mission Station at Moencopi near Tuba City, Ariz. Our parents also lived in Montana for 11 years where father was active in church work.

In 1920 our parents moved to New York State but had to leave on account of father's poor health. From there they moved to Goessel, Kan. where he taught a Sunday school class and did janitor service at the Goessel Mennonite Church. He also loved to be called upon to preach the Word whenever there was a need or opportunity.

In 1948 our parents came to Ferndale, Wash. Again he took great interest in serving in Christian work. In 1958 they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary, and in 1963, on Dec. 14, they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.

Surviving ar his wife, Eva; three sons and three daughters, Mrs. Helen Schmidt of Peabody, Kan.; Margareth [sic Margaretha] and Lydia of Bellingham, Wash., Harry of Ferndale, Wash., Edward of Bellingham, Jacob of Silver Springs, Md.; two brothers with their wives, Mr. and Mrs. Emil Schroeder and Mr. and Mrs. David Schroeder; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Jacob Schroeder and Mrs. Abraham Schroeder; three sisters, Margareth [sic Margaretha] , Mariam [sic Maria] and Sara; three daughters-in-law; 16 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and many cousins, friends and relatives. Preceding him in death were one son, Sandor, one daughter, Anna, one daughter-in-law, Helen, three brothers and one sister.

Funeral services were held May 4 at the Glendale Mennonite Church with Rev. John Suderman and Rev. Myron Hilty bringing words of peace and comfort. Mrs. Linferd Goertz accompanied a mixed quartet and rendered favorite selections. Interment was at the Enterprise Cemetery near Ferndale, Wash. — The Family.
