ARNOLD SCHROEDER IS FATALLY INJURED

Arnold Arthur Schroeder, the 7-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. J. I. Schroeder, 801 South East Second died at 3 o’clock Sunday afternoon at the Bethel Hospital as the result of being run over by an automobile a half hour previous.

The accident occurred in the yard of the East First Street Mennonite church. Arnold was playing and ran in front of the automobile that struck him. The fender knocked him down and the front wheel passed over his chest. Mrs. Ed. Harder, whose home is five and a half miles south east of newton, was driving the car. She stopped the car as soon as possible. Mrs. harder and Mrs. J. G. Regier took the child to Bethel hospital.

Arnold was still conscious when he reached the hospital, and was able to tell his name.

Together with his sisters, Louise and Florence, Arnold had gone to the church to practice for a Christmas entertainment, and the practicing not yet started, he was playing games with other boys in the church yard. Mrs. harder was ringing her children to practice, and she, as a Sunday School teacher, was going to assist. She was driving into the yard when the accident happened. She is Florences’s Sunday School teacher.

On Dec. 13, Arnold would have been seven years old. He is the older boy and the next to the oldest child in the Schroeder family. He attended school at McKinley, and was in the first grade. Besides the sisters already mentioned, and the parents he is survived by his baby brother, Arthur Edward.

As soon as Arnold’s identity was ascertained at the hospital, his parents were summoned. He is the nephew of Sister Linda Marie, a member of the hospital staff. Mr. Schroeder is employed by the Crescent Produce company.

Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the home and at 2:30 at the Mennonite church, and burial will take place in Greenwood cemetery. The Rev. J. E. Entz, pastor of the church will have charge, assisted by the Rev. A. Warkentin.
