— Abe H. Schroeder, 88-year-old Newton resident, died Monday evening at the Bethel Deaconess Hospital. Funeral services are to be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. in the Sister Frieda Memorial Chapel, with Rev. Arnold Epp in charge. A retired farmer, Mr. Schroeder was born in South Russia and came to this country at the age of six. He is survived by his wife, the former Mary Bartel, three sons, Marvin and Harold A. of Newton, and Roland of Canton; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

ABRAHAM H. SCHROEDER

Abraham H. Schroeder, son of the late Henry and Sarah Schmidt Schroeder, was born on June 16, 1868, in South Russia. In early childhood he came to America with his parents, settling in McPherson County, Kans., where he engaged in farming. Upon his retirement in 1928 he moved to Newton where he resided at 414 E. Second Street.

On Dec. 23, 1900, he was united in marriage to Mary Bartel. Early in his youth he was baptized upon his confession of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and received as a member of the Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church at Goessel, Kansas.

He enjoyed excellent health during all his lifetime until the last three years when his health began to fail. On Monday, Jan. 21, he fell and broke a hip. he was then admitted to the Bethel Deaconess Hospital where he underwent surgery. However, his condition failed to improve. On Monday night, Jan. 28, he departed this life to be with the Lord, reaching the age of 88 years, seven months and 12 days.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife Mary and the following children and their families: Marvin and Anna Schroeder of Newton, Harold Schroeder of Newton, Roland and Edna Schroeder of Canton, also eight grandchildren, five great-grandchild3en, many neighbors and friends.
