FANNIE SCHROCK

Fannie Schrock, daughter of Joseph and Bella Yordy Schrock, was born near Schickley, Neb., on July 23, 1907, and passed away at Mennonite Village, Albany, Ore., on June 28, 1986.

In 1909 she moved to Albany with her parents, where she grew to womanhood. She attended high school at Hesston (Kan.) College and later received a bachelors degree in natural science from Goshen (Ind.) College.

She studied and became an X-ray technician at La Junta, Colo., after which she accepted an assignment from Mennonite Central Committee in the Philippines, where she worked in her profession for three years in a medical program.

In 1952 she moved to Lebanon, Ore., where she became head of the X-ray department at the new Lebanon Community Hospital. She served in this capacity until her retirement in 1971, with the exception of two years spent in Greece, where she cooked for and mothered a group of Pax boys.

In 1957 she became a charter member of the Lebanon Mennonite Church, where she remained a faithful member.

After retirement she served a year as hostess at the International Guest House in Washington, D.C. For 12 years she delivered Meals-on-Wheels to the elderly in their homes. She also entertained and “mothered” many foreign students at Oregon State University. She kept in touch with all of them and made a trip around the world to visit them.

She was never idle. If she sat down to rest, there was always knitting or crocheting to work on. She made many items for personal gifts as well as for benefit sales. She enjoyed life and was always ready for a new experience.

She is survived by four brothers and one sister. Dave of Corvallis, Melvin of Halsey, and Ray, Leroy and Ann Roth, all of Albany. One sister and three brothers preceded her in death.

Final services were conducted by Richard Headings and Robert Williams. Burial was in Fairview Mennonite Cemetery, Albany.
