Leader of Farm Groups Dies Unexpectedly

Freeman, S. D. — Funeral services for Ernest E. Schrag, 71, who played a leading part in several rural organizations here, were held Jan. 31 at the Salem Mennonite Church with Rev. Paul Roth, interim pastor, officiating.

Mr. Schrag died Jan. 29 at the Freeman Hospital after suffering a heart attack a few hours earlier.

A native of this community, he was one of the original incorporators of the Turner-Hutchinson Electric Cooperative and was serving as president at the time of his death. He was also active in the Turner County ASCS for more than 30 years, and had been chairman until his recent retirement.

He made his home here with his son, LeRoy. Two married daughters also are among the survivors.
