PETER SCHRAG, JR.

Peter Schrag, Junior, son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter J. P. Schrag, was born June 6, 1935, on a farm near McPherson, Kansas. He passed away at the McPherson County Hospital on February 7, 1948, at 9:00 p.m., reaching the age of 12 years eight months and one day.

He attended the Flora Hill District school the first six years of his elementary schooling. This last year he was a student of the Conway schools. He attended the Hopefield Mennonite church all his life where he was a faithful member of the Sunday School.

Friends and relatives and those who had an acquaintance with him remember him as one of those boys with a special interest in Sunday School and in general religious activity. This interest was shown in Sunday School and in other ways as well. When he had a choice to listen to the radio, he chose religious programs. He often called the attention of his friends and playmates to the things of God.

When the time came for him to leave this pilgrimmage [sic] and answer the call of his Lord, he was ready to go. In his last hours of life on this earth he told both father and mother that he was ready to go to heaven and be with Jesus.

On Wednesday, February 4, he was still in school with no sign of any serious illness. On Thursday he complained of an earache and did not go to school. On Friday he became seriously ill and was taken to the hospital on Friday evening at 8:00 p.m. All possible medical care was given him, but in spite of all that could be done, his strength steadily failed and meningitis following an ear infection finally caused his death. His Heavenly Father called him to rest at 9:00 p.m. on Saturday evening.

He leaves to mourn his departure his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Peter J. P. Schrag, four brothers, five sisters, three brothers-in-law, two nephews, his two grandfathers and his grandmother, and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. in the house and 2:15 p.m. at the Hopefield Mennonite church. Services were conducted by Rev. Edwin Stucky and Rev. Ronald von Riesen. Interment was in the Hopefield cemetery.
