ANNA MARIE SCHRAG

Anna Marie (Stucky) Schrag was born at Marion, S. D. on May 24, 1881. When she was three her mother passed away, the home was broken up and Anna was placed in the John J. Stucky home on a farm near Moundridge, Kan. where she was raised to womanhood.

She was married to Jacob H. Schrag on May 21, 1901. The couple settled on a farm north of Pretty Prairie, Kan. Here two sons, Edwin and Edward, were born. Edward took suddenly ill and passed away before he was a year old.

Jacob and Anna left the farm near Pretty Prairie in 1906 and moved back to Moundridge. Here one daughter Martha and two sons, Elmer and Herbert, were born.

Life was very good to Anna and Jacob. Their business flourished and the four children grew into adulthood. The second tragedy in Anna's life occurred when Martha was killed in a farm accident in May 1931 and the infant son Eston Beery was left without a mother. Anna and Jacob took Eston into their home and raised him to manhood.

In 1944 the couple retired from business and moved to Wellington, Kan. to be near the two sons residing there. Here they lived in retirement until death claimed Jacob in 1963. Herbert's sudden death in 1961 was a great shock to the aging parents. From 1963 until Dec. 1, 1968, Anna made her home next door to the eldest son. When it became evident that living alone was becoming difficult, she was admitted to Prairie Sunset Home at Pretty Prairie, Kan. where she passed away on April 21, 1969, at the age of 87 years, ten months and 27 days.
