Graveside services for Mrs. Adina Schrag, 87, were held at 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 3 at the Eden Mennonite Church cemetery near Moundridge, and were followed by a memorial service in the church at 7 p.m. Rev. Walter Neufeld, the pastor, officiated. Mrs. Schrag died Dec. 30 at the Memorial Home, Moundridge. She was the widow of Jacob D. Schrag, who died in 1948. Surviving are five sons, Alvin, Clarence, and John O., all of McPherson, Martin of Grantham, Pa., and Milo E. of Moundridge; two daughters, Mrs. Melinda Goering of Moundridge and Mrs. Marie Wedel of North Newton; 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

ADINA KAUFMAN SCHRAG

Adina Pearl (Kaufman) Schrag, the youngest of 15 children, was born to Peter and Marie Waltner Kaufman on March 3, 1887, on a farm northwest of Moundridge, Kan. She entered eternal life on Dec. 30, 1974, at the age of 87. The cause of death was cancer.

Adina was orphaned at the age of five or six and lived the next 11 years with her half-sister, Elizabeth, and husband. "Onkel and Tanta" Stucky also opened their home to her sister Rosa and her brother Ben.

She attended elementary school at Pioneer School. It was perhaps in these early years that her love for and her sense of history began.

The Christian faith was an integral part of her lifestyle. She was baptized by her brother-in-law, Rev. Christ. Voran, on Sept. 21, 1902, and joined the Hopefield Mennonite Church. She transferred her membership to the Eden Mennonite church on April 15, 1934.

At the age of 17, on May 5, 1904, she was married to Jacob D. Schrag. After living with Grandmother Daniel Schrag for a year, they moved to an adjacent quarter section of land and there built their home. During the next 44 years it was here that they reared their seven children and faced many pioneer experiences.

Adina was ill much of her adult life. After her husband's death in 1948 she moved to McPherson where she lived until she retired to Memorial Home at Moundridge.

In her memoirs, written at the age of 78, she mentioned her love of horses, her joy in reading, her interest in politics and baseball. We remember her sense of humor, her love of nature, especially of songbirds, her adeptness in quilting, crocheting and other handwork, her strong will and sense of firm convictions.

Remaining to remember a beautiful person are her children, Melinda and husband Martin M. Goering of Moundridge, Alvin and wife Marie, Clarence and wife Leona, and John and wife Esther, all of McPherson, Marie and husband Arnold Wedel of North Newton, Martin and wife Dorothy of Grantham, Pa., Milo and wife Ann of Moundridge, 16 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; and three sisters-in-law, Mrs. Anna (Dan) Schrag and Mrs. Alvina (Ben) Kaufman, both of Moundridge, and Mrs. Harriet (Andrew) Schrag, Lincoln, Neb. — The Family.
