MRS. ELIZABETH SCHOWALTER

Mrs. Elizabeth (Hege) Schowalter was born to Rev. and Mrs. Jacob Hege on Nov. 24, 1879 in Germany. She passed away on May 24,1965, reaching the age of 85 years and six months.

She came to America with her parents at the age of 12 and settled in Nebraska. In the 1890s she moved to California with her parents and settled in the Estrella Plains.

Upon confession of faith and baptism she confessed her faith in Jesus Christ. She was baptized in Germany. Later she became a member of the First Mennonite Church, Paso Robls, Calif.

She was united in marriage to Fred Schowalter on Sept. 6, 1900. He proceded [sic] her in death on Oct. 5, 1943. To this union were born three children: Anita, Mrs. John Neufeld; Irma, who passed away in 1921; and Ruth who passed away in infancy.

Throughout her life she sought to live a life that would demonstrate Jesus Christ. She was a lover of people and because of this she had many friends.

She leaves to mourn her passing one daughter; one brother, Rev. Christian Hege; two sisters, Mrs. Lena Leisy and Mrs. Paula Claassen; three grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends.
