— John J. Schowalter, 70, long-time resident of the Halstead community, died Monday at a Topeka hospital where he had been a patient for some time. Funeral services are announced for 10 a.m. Thursday at the Kaufman Funeral home in Halstead, with Rev. H. T. Unruh officiating, assisted by Rev. Roland Goering. Mr. Schowalter never married. He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Marie Erdman of the family homestead near Halstead, and one brother, William P. Schowalter of Newton.
