MRS. PETER H. SCHMIDT

Mrs. Peter H. Schmidt, nee Susanna Wedel, of Rt. 2, Canton, Kan., daughter of John W. Wedel and Katherine Schmidt Wedel, was born Jan. 24, 1902 in Marion County, Kansas. She graduated from the Gordon Elementary School and attended the Preparatory School in Goessel for two years.

She was baptized on May 15, 1921 by Elder P. H. Unruh and received into the Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church where she remained a faithful member until her death.

On November 17, 1927 she was married to William Goossen. During most of their married life they resided in Colby, Kan. Two children Joseph and Rosella were born to this union. Mr. Goossen died April 26, 1938.

On June 11, 1939 she was married to Peter H. Schmidt. To this union was born one son, Eldon LeRoy.

Some 20 years ago it was discovered that she was the victim of a lingering disease, from which she became an invalid about 10 years later. With God’s help, she was able to accept her suffering patiently. She was a good Christian wife and mother. She retained a clear mind and an active interest in others. She was able to spend most of her time at the farm, but was transferred to the Shiloh Manor at Canton last July. Here she passed on to her eternal reward on Sept. 13, 1967, having reached the age of 65 years.

Those remaining to cherish the memory of her life are her husband, Peter H.; four children, Edna and husband, Willie Nickel, Rt. 1, Canton; Rev. Joseph and wife Elaine, Nova Russas, Ceara, S. A.; Rosella and husband, Arthur Goering, Wichita; Eldon and wife Sandra, Rt. 2, Canton; 13 grandchildren; two sisters, Frieda of Goessel, and Louise, Mrs. P. D. Dirks, Buhler; and other friends and relatives.
