MARTHA RICHERT SCHMIDT

Martha Richert Schmidt, daughter of David P. and Elizabeth Eck Richert, was born north of Moundridge, Kan. on Feb. 24, 1896. When she was 11 year old she moved with her family to Helena, Okla. At 15 she was baptized upon her confession of faith in the New Hopedale Church, Meno, Okla., on Sept. 17, 1911.

On March 1, 1925, she was united in marriage to Isaac J. Schmidt. To this union were born three children, Dora irene, who passed away at the age of four years; Raymond Leroy, and Linda Marie.

She transferred her letter to the Grace Hill Mennonite Church, Whitewater, Kan., in September 1925, and remained a faithful member until her death on March 9, 1963, at the age of 67 years, 15 days. Sister Schmidt had suffered from arthritis for 36 years and this past year was subject to a series of weakening illnesses following a stroke, which her frail body could no longer resist.

Preceded in death by her husband and daughter Dora, she leaves to mourn her departure a son, Raymond Leroy and his wife Elfrieda, of Peabody; a daughter, Linda Marie and her husband, Elmer Goering of Halstead; two brothers, Peter Richert of Durham and Ben Richert of Meno, Okla.; two sisters, Lena, Mrs. John Johnson, of Meno, and Matilda, Mrs. David Becker, of Broken Bow, Okla.; and six grandchildren.

She walked in the shadow of suffering, but now God has called her into the light of that day which knows no night.

Funeral services were conducted at the Grace Hill Mennonite Church, Whitewater, Kan., on Tuesday afternoon, March 12, 1963, with Rev. E. J. Miller and Rev. J. J. Voth in charge. She was laid to rest in the church cemetery.
