MRS. MARIE M. SCHMIDT

Marie Magdalene (Becker) Schmidt was born on Nov. 27, 1885, to Peter J. and Maria (Boese) Becker near Bradshaw, Neb. She lived with her parents in Idaho, Oregon, and various communities in western Oklahoma.

On July 16, 1905, she was baptized by Rev. H. R. Voth and became a member of the Ebenezer Mennonite Church east of Gotebo, Okla. After teaching school in Washita County for two years, she was married to Henry B. Schmidt on July 8, 1906. To this union two sons were born, Rudolf B., who preceded her in death on April 14, 1972, and Ernest Frederick, who preceded her in death on Dec. 20, 1959.

In 1913 Marie and Henry joined the Sichar Mennonite Church east of Cordell and remained members there until it disbanded in 1948. In September of 1950 they joined the Herold Mennonite Church northeast of Cordell where they remained faithful members. He preceded her in death on April 11, 1959.

Her life was blessed of the Lord with a fruitful ministry. She served faithfully in the church as Sunday school teacher, organist, pianist, secretary, librarian, correspondent and mission society worker.

She died at the Corn Home for Aged on Sunday, May 6, 1973 reaching the age of 87.

She leaves a sister, Honora Becker of North Newton, Kan.; two daughters-in-law, Mrs. Rudolf B. Schmidt of Cordell and Mrs. Joe Burton of Pampa, Texas; four grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
