text of obituary:

HELENA SCHMIDT

(Mrs.) Helena Schmidt of Saskatoon was born August 13, 1894, at Marion Junction, South Dakota, the daughter of Dietrich and Katarina Gossen. In 1907 she moved to Saskatchewan with her parents settling on a farm 19 miles northwest of Rosthern. She was saved in 1911 in the little Springfield school in that district and in the same summer was baptized by Rev. H. A. Gossen and taken into the membership of the Salem KMB church. She and her husband remained members of that church until 1960 when they moved to Saskatoon and joined the Saskatoon Mennonite Brethren Church.

She was married to Edwin Schmidt in 1944 and enjoyed with him the blessings of the Lord for 50 years. During this time God gave them six daughters and two sons, all of whom survive with their husbands and wives. Though she experienced several periods of severe illness God always gave her health and strength. A great moment for the Schmidts was the occasion of their Golden Wedding anniversary, December 4, 1964. She also looked forward to the return of her children, Royal and Joyce Schmidt, from mission service in Kenya this summer. God permitted this joy.

She passed away quite suddenly August 22. During her last hours the verse, "The peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Jesus Christ," gave her much comfort.

She leaves to mourn her six daughters and their husbands, Mrs. Menno (Verna) Dirks, Mrs. William (Salome) Ratzlaff, Mrs. Rudolph (Miriam) Grunau, Mrs. Rueben (Lois) Dirks, Miss Wilma Schmidt; two sons and their wives, Loyal Schmidt and Royal Schmidt; and four sisters and two brothers.
